About The Association

Genesis & Mandate

The Association of Indian Independent Music (AIIM) was constituted to address the growing need for a structured academic and regulatory framework within the non-film music sector. Established as an autonomous body under the Societies Registration Act, AIIM functions as the apex trade body and educational institution for independent artists, labels, and music professionals in India.

Recognizing the paradigm shift in music consumption towards digital platforms, the Association launched its Academic Wing (AIIM Academy) in 2025. The Academy is mandated to bridge the skill gap by providing vocational training in Music Law, Intellectual Property Rights, and Audio Engineering, thereby fostering a generation of "Artist-Entrepreneurs" capable of navigating the global music economy.

  • To advocate for fair royalty rates and transparent copyright administration.
  • To conduct annual market research and publish the "State of Indie Industry" report.
